Featured Guitar – December 2024 – SOLD!

It’s pretty uncommon for us to have a guitar like this available on our web site, but here we are.    (Or, there we were…… this guitar sold within days of this posting.)

This is a Limited Grade F-14, built with rare, highly-figured Honduran mahogany back and sides and topped with our 1876-vintage German spruce.

Michael’s main guitar for the last dozen years shares this same extraordinary mahogany while Froggy Bottom fans world-wide rave about our guitars built with this nearly one-hundred-and-fifty year old spruce, which is in a class by itself.

The guitar has a 25” scale length, a 1-3/4” nut and 2-5/16” spacing at the bridge, which is an ebony traditional belly style. The fretboard is ebony and is decorated with our #3 fleur-de-lis inlay pattern in mother-of-pearl, hand engraved by master-engraver Glenn Carson, as is the “Froggy” logo on the headstock. Each piece of Glenn’s work is one-of-a-kind, as is the Petria Mitchell engraving on mammoth ivory of a beautiful dog that decorates the heel cap.

The neck has a solid headstock, bound in our elegant black and white lines, with Waverly high-ratio nickel finish tuners. Binding is highly figured Oregon big leaf maple, with top purfling framing a border of brilliant Paua abalone shell, with matching abalone rosette and back seam inlay. Finish is clear, with an amber burst on the top.

The 16” wide four-ought body is 4 1/4” deep. This a very versatile instrument which works equally well with either light or medium gauge strings. It will handle almost anything you could try musically. The voice is warm, rich, clear as a bell and overtonally complex.

The age of the spruce and the mahogany will allow this guitar to mature very quickly, making for a guitar that will quickly sound like it’s much older than its contemporaries. Bare fingers subtlety, finger picks, or flat pick all work well on this guitar which has tons of headroom and balance. It’s a very versatile instrument.

Our standard TKL American Vintage case is included, black exterior and our dark green velour interior lining.

The materials in this guitar are exceptionally rare and beautiful. For years they would only have been used for commissioned guitars of the very highest quality. This one is truly special.

Maybe Santa can get it onto his sleigh for you this holiday season?

Priced at $22,165.     SOLD!
